Transformed Treasures Tuesday no 17

Transformed Treasures Tuesday no 17 your getting 2 for the price of 1.  I know right what a great deal.  Even if it is a day late.  You will see how I used a couple of pieces from my former apartment living room ledges.  To create a mini fantel for a Christmas display I also took a frame that would usually sit on the fantel of my former apartment and redid it to be a chalkboard display.  I’ve been crafty this weekend for sure.  Trying to get the new to me home all ready for Christmas 2014 isn’t easy.  I have mentioned before how I lost all my old Christmas décor in the move.  So this year I am starting from scratch.  The only things I did not lose were my nativity set gifted to my from my moms last year.  A Santa that has graced many a top of my tree’s over the years and two ornaments of my monster J,  one of her first Christmas and 1 from 2006.  I will at least have these to cherish for future years.

I just took 3 of the pieces of my ledges and screwed them to the wall to create this little ledge.  Which I will from now on call my mini fantel.  {fake + mantel= fantel}

I then decided I needed a chalkboard to go with it.  If you have been following me for awhile, you might recognize the frame I’ve used before on my apartment fantel.

Here’s a peek at it from last Thanksgiving & Veterans day.  I just peeled of the black & white flowered contact paper I had used on it previously.

You can see above how this frame looked when I first thrifted it. I had given it a frame revamp. I now felt like it needed a bit more.

I used some Rustoleum chalkboard paint I had in my trusty paint stash from some old project.

And with some of my still left over MS paint in polished silver finish gave it some more sass.

It needs 3 days to dry and seal, so I’m not able to actually write on it yet.

But I did do a little playing around on picmonkey so this is what I hope it will look like once complete.

As I don’t think my handwriting is that great it might end up looking more like the second picture.  lol

  1. I love your “fantel” lol that is great! And a great word too. That chalkboard is going to be fab! Can’t wait to see it.

  2. I looked up what a fantel was before I got to your definition what it is. This is a nice transformation. I love how clean and sharp it looks now.

    Clever new fantal and picture frame into chalkboard idea. You will like getting some of those letters and numbers to trace and make words for chalkboards to change it up each season.
