Thrift Store DIY – Basket Pendant Light
First, I want to thank Anj for allowing me to share with you this thrift store DIY. She has inspired me to look at things in a whole new light. (no pun intended :))
So, my thrift store find was an old plant basket. I probably would have passed it by but I put my thinking cap on and had a great idea. To re-purpose this thrift store basket into a DIY Basket Pendant Light.
One of the rooms I am are currently working on is my husband’s office. To add a sense of whimsy and fun, I wanted to add a bright color yellow and I did that with this thrift store basket. Let me show you how I did it.
Here are the items I used.
The basket, a pendant light kit from Lowes, yellow spray paint and I used an old CD to cover the large opening in the basket. This will hold the light in place as well.
I first cleaned and painted the basket.
I then painted the front and back of the CD. I allowed the basket and CD to dry completely overnight.
The next morning, I attached the CD with a hot glue gun and added the pendant light kit. I could have stopped here and installed the light. But I felt it need something else.
I added some burlap ribbon to the bottom with a hot glue gun. I love my hot glue gun! This way it would tie into the other colors in the room. We will see if I really like it, I can always remove it if it doesn’t work.
I always wondered what do you do to keep the lighting kit in place if there is a large opening. Well, the next time you see a basket with a large opening don’t discard it. You can be creative with all sorts of items in your home.
Do you have a DIY project that uses unexpected items?
Once again, Thank you Anj, for giving me the opportunity to share this DIY project with you and your readers. Hope you liked it.
