canvas rugs go anywhere and everywhere

I’ve become a little obsessed with canvas rugs.  Because canvas rugs go anywhere and everywhere.  I’ll tell you why.  You can paint a piece of canvas in your color choice and take the baby everywhere you go.  Let me give you some examples. If you have been following me for even a little while you know my colors are black & white.  I’ve been obsessed with black my whole life I think.  So it will be of no surprise that I painted these two rugs black and white.

I intended to use these on the deck by the pool in my backyard.  And I did for this party.

But after the party it occurred to me these babies could and would go anywhere.  So we took them on a picnic for the fourth of July.

Aren’t these two just the cutest?

It was really hot out hence the water to the head.  Kids copy the darnedest things.

And my niece took one to a concert.  Genius how she decided to use it on floor of her boyfriends pickup right??  It must run in the family.

FYI Helpful hints in case you decide to try this – all I did to paint these bad boys was draw lines on the canvas.  No tape no tools, I free hand painted.  Easy peasy.  On the first canvas which was a 5 x 5 I painted the white first and then the black.  I do suggest that if you go with two opposite colors as I did you do the darker color first.  It’s much easier to touch up/cover any mistakes or splatter of the lighter color, on the darker color.  Also be sure to put something under canvas while painting as some paint will seep thru.  Second canvas/drop-cloth was 4 x 15.  And the best part of all I bring these home and hose them off after each outing.  Let them air dry and there ready to be folded up and out to the next fun time.

Let me know in comments if you have any questions.  I’d be glad to help.

Just genius Anj, my mind is thinking of what colors to paint a canvas. So after painting, you can just wash and the paint does not wash out, is that right? You could make a bunch of these and sell them.

Yep that is right paint soaks into fabric and stays put. I totally thought the same thing and tested after painting the first rug. 🙂

Beautiful Anj! Never thought to use a canvas rug but you show so many wonderful examples. I agree with Sue, you need to make and sell them!
