Transformed Treasures Tuesday no 10

Transformed Treasures Tuesday no 10

Transformed Treasures Tuesday no 10.  It’s a dresser that was just sitting in a corner of my honey’s house.  I mentioned to him that J was in need of a dresser and he said just take one of the ones upstairs.  “Can’t you do something with it?”  Well yes yes I can and did.  As you will see below this dresser has gone NY fabulous now.  J has always wanted a NYC theme in room.  I had seen a bunch of subway art themed re-vamps so decided I could something like that.  I picked some street names I knew she would know.  My mom has always taken her to NY to people watch.  It’s one of her favorite pass times.

Here’s how I spotted the dresser I thought I could transform.  See it was just sitting in the corner of a room.

I decided to strip the top for a different top look, but knew I would just paint the rest.

I used Annie Sloan Graphite & Pure white I had leftover from previous projects. Yes chalk paint is expensive but it really is so much easier to use.  I’m not a fan of the sanded finishes you can do with them.  So I do not sand them to scratch off the paint.

I picked up the stencil’s at Micheal’s I got 3 inch as well as 1 inch stencil’s so I could make the letters different sizes as needed.  I see some other subway art in my future.  ;-)

I also decided I wanted to line the drawers so I went online and googled NY fabric and ordered from below site .  I paid I think about $10 a yard for each drawer for a total cost of $50.  Plus I decided this beauty needed some awesome new knobs which I order threw amazon for $16

Here’s a peek at the material on each drawer.  nydresserdrawerslined

The top was stained with some leftover Jacobean from Minwax.  I really love the beautiful brown it finishes.  nydresserbna

So what do you think??

My J is loving her dresser.  Hope you all like it too.  If you have any questions please leave it in comments and I will get back to you.

  1. I am not a fan of the scratch off the paint look for each and every project either, so love your before and after dresser for that reason! Plus, this is such an original look. You knock it out of the park every time. You could open a store.

  2. I think it is fantastic! What a clever idea adding streets and then doing the drawer linings to match the theme! Cuuuuute!

  3. I think you did an amazing job! I can’t find Annie Sloan paint any where near where I live, but I noticed that Lowe’s is selling chalk paints so I was happy about that. Love the theme….great work!
